The Bureaucracy of Miracles

Dispatches from the Department of Unverifiable Occurrences

Synopsis

When a stained-glass window in a municipal tram depot begins refracting light into nonexistent spectra, it is not referred to the Academy of Sciences. It is routed to Section 18-C of the Directorate of Records. Soren Vance crafts a dazzling, understated examination of human order confronting the incomprehensible. With dry humor and bureaucratic precision reminiscent of Kafka and Borges, the novel follows Inspector Arthur Klein as he audits levitating park benches, weeping cadastral maps, and an archivist who discovers an extra Tuesday in every leap year.
